Haven Family Support is designed to help parents who, for whatever reason, are having trouble with the task of being a parent and need temporary guidance to help them navigate parenting challenges and succeed.

How We Help

The love of family is critical for children’s success. Our mission is to keep families together by providing active intervention when support is needed.

We maintain the family unit by teaching practical parenting skills that support the family bond and lead to success. When parents can enjoy parenting, both they and their children can thrive.

When families have had bigger challenges, and their kids are no longer in the home, we walk beside parents to develop family wellness and support reunification between children in-care and their families.

We welcome families with open arms and open hearts. We meet families where they are at with a genuine passion for their success.

Haven Family Support receives funding from, and works in partnership with, the Ministry of Social Services, Government of Saskatchewan. Two additional positions are generously funded by a private donor and Conexus Credit Union.

Here are the goals we hope to accomplish:

Programs

Being a Parent is Not Always Easy...

It’s no secret that being a parent can be difficult and demanding. But parenting can be especially tough and stressful when you:

  • Feel overwhelmed

  • Are isolated from family and friends

  • Experience a crisis

  • Face financial difficulties

  • Have no adult with whom to share your thoughts, feelings & concerns

How does a Family Support worker help?

A worker provides in-home support through regularly scheduled visits that assist families with learning:

  • Positive parenting skills

  • Ages and stages of child development

  • Family stability, bonding and wellness

  • Community ties, resources and connections

  • Home management and budgeting

  • Communication skills

How Haven Family Support Works

The referral process starts when a Ministry of Social Services case worker, parent/guardian, or a community organization requests the support of a Family Support Worker. The Program Director assesses the referral and assigns a Family Support worker to the family.

If a family or an agency has made a self-referral, the Program Director will review the request, contact them by phone, and answer questions. A Family Support worker will be assigned if the family is still interested and feels our support is a good fit.

Once assigned, we meet with the family to identify together the goals and tasks that will be completed. The Family Support worker works together with the family to achieve the desired outcomes through regularly scheduled home visits. We also assist the family with establishing the necessary supports to ensure a safe and healthy environment for the children.

Short Term

  • Connect with community resources

  • Identify and deal with abuse/neglect issues

  • Work on age appropriate child development

  • Learn and share positive parenting strategies

Mid Term

  • Continue to enable access to community services

  • Work on self-esteem and coping skills

  • Build communication within the family

  • Work on parenting skills

  • Enhance personal health

Long Term

  • Family remains intact where possible

  • Family bond is strong

  • Parents and children enjoy their relationship

  • Family is reunited where possible

  • Children are safe and supported

 

The Haven Family Support program is made up of a number of trained individuals who provide a supportive role to parents in many caring ways.

  • Be understanding, honest and provide encouragement

  • Teach essential parenting skills

  • Respect the confidentiality of the information we receive

  • Regularly visit the family at home

  • Help to find a solution for childcare

  • Connect families with available community resources
